Facebook charges past wikipedia
Source : Dan Leahul, Brand Republic
LONDON - Facebook is now more popular than Wikipedia, according to new traffic figures, which makes the social network the fourth most visited website in the world, behind Google, Microsoft and Yahoo!.
Facebook has grown over 150% in the past year, adding 24m unique visitors in June alone. The website is visited by 340m unique users each month with 250m active users.

In the past year, its traffic figures have surpassed MySpace, Amazon, eBay and AOL, according to comScore.
As it stands, Facebook remains the only website in the top 10 which has yet to figure out a sustainable revenue stream, and it has a long way to go before it catches the top three, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! -- who garner between 200m and 500m more unique visitors every month.
Yet its growth is significant when considering Facebook's age -- the website has only been around for five years, compared to the established old guard of Microsoft and Yahoo!.
Also, comScore tallies all of the companies websites together -- while Google remains on top at 844m monthly unique visitors, that includes all of its web properties, including Gmail and YouTube -- whereas Facebook only counts Facebook.com.

Loose weight.... use blackberry!
Enhanced Version Launches This Week on BlackBerry App World
BOCA RATON, Fla.--(For Michael Schneider, a busy college student with an on-the-go lifestyle and no time for shopping or cooking, weight loss was almost impossible. Desperate for a nutrition plan that fit with his unpredictable schedule, he downloaded Weight Loss Sensei, a Virtual Dietitian application for his BlackBerry® smartphone. Six months later, Michael has lost more than 50 pounds with the Weight Loss Sensei Application by eating the healthy options Sensei recommends at his favorite restaurants and fast food locations. (Photo available upon request.)
Understanding the need for on-the-go weight loss support, released the Weight Loss Sensei application for BlackBerry® smartphones, which is available now for download on BlackBerry App World™ or on the Sensei for Weight Loss site (http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.Sensei.com&esheet=6033668&lan=en_US&anchor=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.Sensei.com&index=4), as part of its comprehensive online and mobile phone weight loss program. Sensei’s program teaches consumers how to embrace a healthy lifestyle with customized meal plans, fitness tips and encouraging advice pushed directly to the dieter’s mobile phone or computer.
Weight Loss Sensei’s flexible plan and virtual mobile coach encourages Michael to make healthy choices on-the-go.
“My BlackBerry is my constant companion, and I rely on it for everything. With Weight Loss Sensei installed, it’s easy to stick with my diet because the plan is with me wherever I go,” said Schneider. “Instead of having to plan ahead for every meal, I use the mobile application to live spontaneously and still lose weight.”
Weight Loss Sensei transforms the BlackBerry smartphone into a 24/7 weight loss coach, with a program tailored to meet individual needs, preferences and challenges. With personalized recommendations for on-the-go dining, quick exercises, and frequent motivational tips, Weight Loss Sensei helps busy dieters stay successful in any situation.
“We created the Weight Loss Sensei Application to make it easier for today’s dieter to choose healthy dining options at any time and any place from their BlackBerry smartphone,” said Robert Schwarzberg, CEO of Sensei. “Too often, unplanned events and stressors lead to impulsive choices and reap havoc on diets. Sensei’s application provides support at these critical junctures to keep users on track.”
Instead of a one-size-fits-all solution, Sensei takes a detailed account of the unique challenges each user faces and builds a nutrition and fitness program based on lifestyle, cuisine preference and budget. The Sensei customer is reminded when to exercise, what to buy from the grocery store, and encouraged to “stick with it” when confronted with various challenges. These personalized tips are sent directly to the Sensei user through his or her BlackBerry smartphone.
Mobile Phones: The Sensei Way to Weight Loss
Originally launched in November, 2007, Weight Loss Sensei is among the first “intelligent applications” available based on Social Cognitive Theory and the science of behavioral informatics - the use of technology to promote behavior change. The program draws on both Web and mobile technologies to personalize interaction with the user, maximizing convenience and increasing the user’s prospects for long term weight-management success. The experience begins online, where users enter their desired weight, food preferences, eating habits, meal times, exercise routines and other personal information. Sensei’s expert system then works with the user to generate a realistic, customized nutrition and fitness plan.
consumers download the application, they will be prompted to enroll using their smartphone. Alternatively, they can also enroll online and have the application sent directly to their BlackBerry smartphone
Social Networks and Talent Strategies
All the chatter around social networking seems apropos considering it is—at its core—a communications media. However, examinations of the demographics, trends, and impact send some mixed messages. For example:
Facebook users get lower grades in college features an Ohio State University study where the 85% of students who are Facebook users get lower grades. Yet Facebook, YouTube at work make better employees: study highlights an Australian study where workers who use the Internet at work are 9% more productive. And opportunities abound as Social Networking jobs are steadily rising.
Meanwhile, the intersection of social networking and recruiting continues to be controversial. Jobseekers are counseled on How to Turn Social Networking Into a Job Offer while Bosses and Workers Disagree on Social Network Privacy.
The Consumer Internet Barometer found 43% of the online community now use social networking sites, up from 27% a year ago. But College Students’ Facebook Use Easing Up Over the Summer, While Parents Logging On in Record Numbers.
The social networking demographic has surely broadened beyond Gen Y along with the applications of the technologies.
Successful organizations are using social technologies to complement their talent strategies. Find out more about Leveraging the 4 C’s of Social Software to Drive Talent Management Adoption on July 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET.

New technology to check vehicle pollution
DELHI: In a bid to control pollution, the Delhi government's transport department has decided to use a new technology by which the pollution level of all types of vehicles can be measured even when these are on the move.
"Our government is committed to develop pollution-free transport system in Delhi. Remote sensing technology is a world class technology which measures pollution from all type of vehicles like petrol, diesel, CNG & LPG with 100 percent accuracy through ultra-violet and ultra-sonic rays," said Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely.A demonstration regarding the new technology was made near Chandgi Ram Akhara (Ring Road) by the transport department in the presence of Lovely, Transport Commissioner R.K. Verma and other senior officials of the department."This technology neither requires a particular vehicle to be stopped or slowed down nor requires a physical connection to exhaust pipe to measure pollution level in it," he added.Lovely said the remote sensing technology measures HC (hydro-carbon), CO (Carbon-Monoxide), CO2 and NOx emitted from individual vehicles running on the road."In addition to pollution levels, vehicle speed and vehicles picture is also recorded in the computersystem. That picture of the vehicles would also help the department in keeping a check on vehicles overloaded with passengers or goods," the minister said.Tuesday, August 18, 2009
How technology has ruined life for our kids!
msnbc.com
Back in my day, if we wanted to “text” our school chums, we spent three days loading type blocks into the Gutenberg Press. And by the time that message finally reached its destination via carrier pigeon, the recipient was a fortnight dead from The Consumption. And we didn’t need your so-called first person shooter games. By our 12th birthdays, we were already enlisted in Uncle Sam’s Army gunning for Charlie in the trenches of ‘Nam.
Okay, maybe my memory is a bit off on account of all that mercury in the hat factory where I worked 32 hours a day as a child laborer. But I see here in this story about two recently-published surveys by MTV Networks and Nickelodeon that you kids today take all your new-fangled technology for granted. We grups were born pre-broadband, but we still had it better than you. How’s that, what with all the hardships, you ask? Well, listen up as I ramble incessantly about the Golden Age of Childhood and how technology has ruined life for kids.
But first, more about these surveys, which involved 18,000 participants ages 8 to 24 in 16 countries including Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom and United States. Apparently, while the kids do the Internet and keep their cell phones handy, relatively few claim to “like technology.”
According to Andrew Davidson, vice president of MTV’s VBS International Insight unit (whatever that is), “Young people don’t see 'tech' as a separate entity — it’s an organic part of their lives.” Better oblivious than just too stupid to understand what they’re using … I guess.
Meanwhile, the report goes on to comfort parents concerned about their gadget-infested children. Turns out, the most popular activities for kids under 14 are still things like “watching TV, listening to music and being with friends.”
But wait! Mystery VP Davidson also says, “Talking to (young people) about the role of technology in their lifestyle would be like talking to kids in the 1980s about the role the park swing or the telephone played in their social lives – it’s invisible.” So how accurate can those answers be if, as Davidson seems to imply, using technology for kids is as natural and unconscious an activity as say breathing or passing gas?
Most likely these same kids are texting snarky comments about the latest brat featured on “My Super Sweet 16,” and downloading MP3s on their video iPods while hanging out with friends in cyberspace. Which is sad, really. What these kids should be doing is spending hours after school with their friends making crank phone calls to numbers randomly dialed or picked from the phone book. But they can’t — and not because they never heard of Prince Albert in a can. And that’s because of technology.
These same innovations making kids so savvy are used against them in the form of caller I.D. Outside the animated world of “The Simpsons,” kids have lost the adolescent rite of passage to call Moe Syzlak looking for “Amanda Hugandkiss.” The fact is, *67 is no longer effective in protecting your identity from the wrath of those on the receiving end of your hilarious stupidity.
Once upon a time you actually had to spend time in the fresh air and sunshine — or at least go to the mall — to encounter “stranger danger.” These days the perverts sneak straight into the house via a fake MySpace profile.
Speaking of perversions, porn (or “porno” as we called it) is now way too easy to get. “National Geographic” and the occasional pilfered “Playboy” eased kids gently into their sexuality. Now, easy access on the Internet introduces adolescents to all manner of freaky stuff they shouldn’t even consider until they’re 48 and in the icy grips of a dead marriage.
Oh I could go on and on about how we saw movies for free by sneaking in through the theater exit door, not bootlegging them off the Internet. And when we got caught, we were banned by the theater, not busted by the F.B.I. And thanks to “nanny cams,” young babysitters can’t even get a peek into the mysterious world of adulthood by rifling through their employer’s stuff.

What’s more, embarrassing teenage tomfoolery is never forgotten on account of the video record that pops up on YouTube before you get off the bus. Being fat and naked after Phys. Ed. always sucked, but thanks to cell phone cams, the whole school gets to see your Rubenesque undress — not just a handful of jerks in the locker room.
Still, there is some comfort. As long as technology continues to turn perfectly good vegetables into high fructose corn syrup, and kids continue to find the virtual world more engaging than riding their bikes ‘til dusk, most kids with portable photo equipment will be too blubbery to bother. Thanks technology!
Zune HD- A head on with iPod and more...
Details are also scarce concerning storage capacities, CPU performance, and other crucial numbers, but it seems like they've got more in store come E3... and that's the next big piece of news. Zune integration is coming to the Xbox and Xbox Live, as the Zune marketplace will step in to replace the current Live video resources, expanding the library and offering all kinds of new perks, like Zune's first foray into international waters. According to the company, at E3 "attendees will see first-hand how Zune integrates into Xbox LIVE creating a game-changing entertainment experience" -- we're not entirely sure what the means right now, but it sounds sweet. Try to contain your excitement.

Coolpad Phones - capable of both GSM & CDMA
Coolpad phones ~ These phone are capable of handling both GSM & CDMA !!!
There were dual sim phones long back which had to be switched off to alternate the sim cards, then came dual sim's working together simultaneously, heard about triple sim's and even quad sim's "^''^"1!
Any way those providers(READ RELIANCE) who were on cdma and swore on cdma as the best service would be able to convert their customers now without much of persuassion.
Or may be on instances when GSM fails CDMA could be the backup service,as we tried among operators.Sim's don't need to be changed.

The Free Phone Concept and India
Sometime back there were rumours that Iphone would be available in india to vodafone customers for Just Rs 8000/- then it was said that it would be supplied free for vodafone subscribers and there was a number to send sms to book the phone and then the .......
But around the year 2003 Reliance was to launch and they were doing the ground work by the name of dirubhai ambani enterpreneur.Which did not go well and there were lots of issues which they did not rectify.
Then suddenly there was Reliance LG handsets for Rs 501/- and rest in installments which had a emi component of the handset. Thus it wasn't a free phone though it turned out to be free for many who brought and never paid for it.
Reliance attempted to bail many out by offering to change the connection to prepaid by paying Rs 2000/- for connections whose outstanding bill amount was below 20,000/- for those in 19,xxx this was a great advantage enjoyed by those who defaulted.
But however this episode is known as the free phone concept of reliance in india. But actually around Rs 300 was collected as emi for the phone, and these phones were locked to the service provider.
But there are other offers from bsnl for 1100 with a emi of Rs110 for 12 months and so on , but however due to atrocious Public relations and customer care they never attracted attention
Now there is offer from reliance Rs777/- for reliance cdma handset with lifetime incoming free.
